The ODA offered a special 8-hour opioid CE course before the official start of the ODA Annual Session to help dentists meet the DEA opioid training requirement.

OhioDDS partnered with Safco to help members save on dental supplies

The ODA Services Corp. partnered with Safco as the new distribution partner for the OhioDDS group purchasing organization. OhioDDS participants receive guaranteed savings through Safco, including at least 10% savings on national brand products and 30% savings on Safco brand products. More than 950 ODA members have signed up for OhioDDS, and members save on average $5,000 per year.

We created an advertising campaign to help increase the dental workforce

The ODA released a series of radio, digital and social media advertisements aimed at attracting new dental assistants and hygienists into the workforce. The advertisements highlight the benefits of becoming a dental assistant or hygienist and point listeners to visit oda.org, speak to their school guidance counselor or a dentist in their community to learn more. The radio ads are airing on ONN stations across the state.

We successfully advocated for a Medicaid dental fee increase

We have actively advocated for a substantial increase in the state’s funding of Ohio’s dental Medicaid program. We engaged state leaders for the last two years as we prepared for passage of the state’s budget for fiscal years 2024 and 2025. In July, the Ohio General Assembly passed a state budget that will increase dental Medicaid reimbursements in Ohio by more than 90% on average. Fee increases are expected to take effect Jan. 1, 2024, and will be the first of any significance in over 20 years.

We helped members resolve dental insurance issues

We helped address issues that several members had with insurance companies and third-party payers that they were unable to resolve on their own, and answered questions about dental insurance issues via phone and email from more than 185 members.

We launched an updated regulatory compliance guide

The Ohio Dental Association has released an updated version of its regulatory compliance guide to help ODA members ensure they are in compliance with numerous Ohio regulations. The guide – “Ohio Dentist Advisor: Your Guide to Regulatory Compliance” – was created by the Ohio Dental Association as a benefit to ODA members. The guide includes summaries, checklists and fillable forms to help offices ensure they are compliant with regulations. The updated guide contains new information on DEA requirements, e-prescribing laws, silver diamine fluoride and delegable duties, and medical gas.

We offered an 8-hour opioid course to help dentists meet the new DEA training requirement

A special 8-hour opioid CE course was presented before the official start of the ODA Annual Session. The course was offered to help dentists meet the DEA opioid training requirement. All DEA-registered practitioners who renew their DEA registration on or after June 27, 2023 must complete 8 hours of training on treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.

We offered a 2-hour free online opioid course to help members meet requirements

The Ohio Dental Association released a new online opioid CE course, available free to ODA members as a benefit of membership. The course meets the OSDB’s requirement for all dentists to complete 2 hours of continuing education on opioid prescribing and related issues for licensure renewal and can be combined with 6 additional hours of education from courses with similar content to meet the DEA opioid training requirement for registrants.

We continue to sponsor our own, private health benefit plan for ODA members

The ODA Wellness Trust is a private, dentist-owned, self-funded health benefits plan, developed by ODA member dentists for ODA member dentists, their families, and their staff members to provide high quality health benefits at affordable rates. By providing coverage to over 3,500 total enrollees, the ODA Wellness Trust continues to be one of the most utilized programs through the ODA Services Corp.

The ODA Foundation raffled off a chance to win a vacation

The ODA Foundation held its annual raffle fundraiser for the first time in several years. New this year, the first prize was a Vacation of a Lifetime through LuxGive. The annual ODA Foundation raffle is one of the primary sources of funding for oral health-related grants and dental scholarships for deserving students.

We offered resources to help dentists find a job or hire an associate or purchase or sell a practice

The ODA Subcouncil on New Dentists hosted a Career Connections event to help dentists, dental residents and dental students who are looking for a job match up with dentists who are preparing for a practice transition or looking to expand their practice. Formerly known as the MATCH program, this event was revamped as a casual meet and mingle experience. Additionally, the ODA website features a Jobs & Ads Board, available exclusively to ODA members.
