RAM SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR COLUMBUS EVENT FOLLOWING ODA ANNUAL SESSION

RAM clinicRemote Area Medical (RAM) is planning an event in Columbus on Sept. 23-24. Volunteer dentists, oral surgeons, hygienists and assistants are needed at this event.

The two-day clinic will be held at East High School, located at 1500 E. Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43205. This clinic is in collaboration with the Columbus Community Host Group.

Volunteers are needed Saturday, Sept. 23 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 24 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Services provided will include cleanings, fillings (composite and amalgam), and extractions (simple and surgical).

All RAM services are free, and no ID is required for patients to receive care. Free dental, vision and medical services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at this event.

RAM is a major nonprofit organization that operates pop-up clinics delivering free, quality dental, vision and medical services to individuals in need who do not have access to, or cannot afford, a doctor. Founded in 1985, RAM has treated more than 910,000 individuals with $189.5 million worth of free health care and veterinary services. Since its foundation, more than 196,000 volunteers – comprised of licensed dental, vision, medical and veterinary professionals, as well as general support staff – have supported RAM’s mission.

The RAM event is part of the ODA Volunteer Connection program, which helps connect dentists with volunteer CE credit opportunities at clinics and events providing free care in Ohio to help increase access to care. Dentists can earn up to one third of their biennium CE requirement through volunteer CE at a rate of one hour of clinical volunteer service equating to one CE credit hour. This event coincides with the ODA Annual Session, which is taking place in Columbus Sept. 21-23. Dentists and their teams are encouraged to attend both events.

“Because this RAM event is being held the same weekend as the ODA Annual Session, this is a great opportunity for offices to attend Annual Session together and then volunteer at the RAM event as a team.” said Dr. Kari Cunningham, chair of the ODA Council on Access to Care and Public Service.
