Ohio Dental Association applauds Governor DeWine’s signing of Senate Bill 40
The Ohio Dental Association (ODA) commended Governor Mike DeWine for signing Senate Bill 40 into law. This new law includes two important dental-related reforms by (1) joining Ohio to the newly-created Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact and (2) prohibiting dental insurance companies from setting fees for services the insurers do not even cover.
ODA Executive Director David J. Owsiany said “the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact will facilitate dental practice mobility, allowing dentists and dental hygienists to practice in multiple states without the need for separate redundant licenses. This will streamline the process, while preserving appropriate oversight by the Ohio State Dental Board of anyone practicing dentistry or dental hygiene pursuant to a compact privilege in Ohio.”
Owsiany added that “the non-covered services portion of the bill will protect dentist-patient relationships from unnecessary interference by dental insurance companies.”
Owsiany concluded that “the Ohio Dental Association appreciates the members of the General Assembly who voted to enact these important reforms and Governor DeWine for signing this critical bipartisan legislation into law.”
The Ohio Dental Association represents more than 5,000 member dentists across the state of Ohio. ODA member dentists provide more than $40 million in donated care and services annually, and they are bound by the highest ethical standards and have access to superior ongoing education, training and resources.
