2023 Callahan Celebration of Excellence
Honoring Dr. Lori Fitzgerald
Established in 1920, the Callahan Award is an international honor named for Dr. John Ross Callahan that recognizes outstanding contributions to dentistry. The ODA Awards of Excellence recognize Ohio dentists and others who have made exemplary efforts on behalf of the profession.
The awards include the presentation of the ODA’s highest honor, the Joseph P. Crowley Distinguished Dentist Award, as well as the Achievement Award, the Marvin Fisk Humanitarian Award, and the N. Wayne Hiatt Rising Star Award.

2023 Callahan Award
Dr. James Vaden is dedicated to teaching orthodontics and advancing the profession. In recognition of his efforts, he will receive the 2023 Ohio Dental Association Callahan Memorial Award on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Callahan Celebration of Excellence, held in conjunction with the 157th ODA Annual Session.
Joseph P. Crowley Distinguished Dentist Award
Dr. Sharon Parsons is a leader in organized dentistry, demonstrating strong leadership in particular through the COVID-19 pandemic. For her efforts, she will receive the 2023 Ohio Dental Association Joseph P. Crowley Distinguished Dentist Award on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Callahan Celebration of Excellence, held in conjunction with the 157th ODA Annual Session.
Achievement Award
Dr. Michael Thomas has been heavily involved in the Stark County Dental Society and organized dentistry throughout his career. In recognition of his efforts, he will receive the Ohio Dental Association Achievement Award on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Callahan Celebration of Excellence, held in conjunction with the 157th ODA Annual Session.
Marvin Fisk Humanitarian Award
Dr. Jeffrey Yoest has shown a commitment to serving others throughout his career as a dentist. In recognition of his efforts, he will receive the Ohio Dental Association Marvin Fisk Humanitarian Award on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Callahan Celebration of Excellence, held in conjunction with the 157th ODA Annual Session.
N. Wayne Hiatt Rising Star Award
Dr. Winnie Wong has served in many leadership roles within organized dentistry. In recognition of her efforts, she will receive the Ohio Dental Association N. Wayne Hiatt Rising Star Award on Friday, Sept. 22 at the Callahan Celebration of Excellence, held in conjunction with the 157th ODA Annual Session.
