ODA ANNUAL SESSION TO BE LAST STOP ON JUDY KAY MAUSOLF’S FAREWELL TOUR

ODA Annual Session is Sept. 25-27 and will include CE courses for the entire dental team.
Judy Kay Mausolf, a speaker, author, and dental culture specialist, will be presenting her last major speaking engagement on her farewell tour before retirement at the 2025 ODA Annual Session.
Mausolf has spoken at several ODA Annual Session times throughout her career and is an attendee favorite.
At this year’s Annual Session, she will be presenting:
- “R.I.S.E. to Success: Systems & Strategies that Build High-Performing Teams” on Friday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m.-noon.
- “Communication Solutions – Attitudes, Breakdowns & Conflict Resolutions!” on Friday, Sept. 26 from 2-5 p.m.
“If everything is 100% working in your practice, and everybody’s happy, and you don’t have turnover, and you don’t have burnout, and it’s just like the perfect place to be, I wouldn’t come,” Mausolf said. “But most offices are struggling with massive turnover. Most offices are struggling with stress and burnout. This is a meeting that you want to come with your entire team, and I know we always think, divide and conquer and hear more. But these courses are meant so that you hear it together. So when you walk away from the course, you can go to lunch or happy hour and talk about what do you want to do different in your practice, and it introduces some ideas. It’ll give you some skill sets on what to do to make things different, because if we keep doing the same behaviors, we’re going to get the same results.”

Mausolf’s expertise is in helping others become happier and more successful. She coaches dentists and their teams on how to become better leaders, communicate effectively, work together better and deliver service with more focus and passion, which result in cultivating a happier, healthier and higher performing culture. She speaks to large audiences, at private small group events and does one-on-one coaching.
“I like the mix because speaking to a larger audience allows me to reach more people, and I’ll be honest, I’m kind of a ham. I like the applause. I like the connection. It’s fun. I like the energy especially, and audiences are very different,” she said. “But yet I also like the deep dive into coaching as well. I like to be able to find out what makes somebody tick and what things to get out of their way. I like the blend because it keeps it interesting.”
Mausolf said that she’s not focused on the bottom line at a dental practice, but instead how to make the practice better and help the team work together.
“I spend very little time talking about dentistry, and most of the time talking about all the anxiety from out in the world,” she said. “There’s everything in moderation, right? So work-life balance.”
She said the biggest challenge she thinks dental practices are facing right now is staffing.
“For so many years you had the same team, and then you might have a turnover of one or two, but COVID really changed that, and it’s still affecting things. It’s changed the landscape in that we created a whole new work ethic,” she said. “So the best thing you can do in a practice is make sure that your culture is a culture that people want to work in.”
She said that one of the biggest challenges to a positive office culture can be keeping a toxic team member on the team.
Mausolf said that during her courses, she likes to engage with her audiences.
“I think it’s part of our responsibility as a speaker to come in and light it up a little bit. Sometimes you have to shake it up because people come in and they get into the muck of the mundane. It’s to try and have them see things maybe a little differently than how they saw it before they walked in.”
Mausolf said the thing she is going to miss the most about speaking and coaching is the people.
“You meet a lot of amazing people,” she said. “And I think being able to make a positive impact. There’s a lot of anxiety. There’s a lot of pain. Maybe somebody comes in and they’re thinking it’s just going to be another meeting, and they come out and they feel hopeful. I think that’s probably one of the things that I’m going to miss the most.”
Mausolf is past president of National Speakers Association (Minnesota Chapter), recognized as a leader in consulting by “Dentistry Today” and the recipient of the 2024 Dr. Gordon Christensen Lecturer Recognition Award. She is author of three books: “TA-DAH,” “Delivering W.O.W. Service” and “Rise & Shine!” and a contributing author for many dental magazines.
The 2025 ODA Annual Session is Sept. 25-27 in Columbus and will feature CE for dentists and specialists, an expansive Exhibit Hall and fun social events.
“I think you really should go to the ODA Annual Session because it’s a great meeting, and it’s not so big that it becomes uncomfortable where you can’t find where you want to go and what you want to do,” she said. “It’s very well organized. That’s one of my things that I love most about coming there. I think it’s a great time. I think there’s a great roster of speakers. And I would love to have my rooms full because I want to celebrate with people before this is it! This is mic drop time.”
