Direct Reimbursement is a program that pays a fixed percent of dental care costs. This pre-determined percentage is based on a plan designed by the employer to meet both company and employee needs. Direct Reimbursement allows employees freedom of choice – they aren't confined only to dentists in a certain plan or restricted to select procedures.
Furthermore, the only benefits paid for are the services received. The employer does not pay for coverage any individual employee does not use or does not need; nor are employees subject to waiting periods of eligibility imposed by an insurance company.
Benefits to Direct Reimbursement for employers include:
- Co-pays and annual maximums provide cost controls
- No premiums
- Payment is only made for those employees who actually visit the dentist
- Great bang for the buck
- 88-90 percent of the dental benefit dollar is spent on actual dental care – not an insurer's overhead, staffing, advertising, etc.
- Freedom for employees to choose any dentist for treatment
- Fewer employee complaints about dental plan
- Simple and cost-effective to administer
- Can be customized to meet the employer's unique needs
