Career and Practice

The ODA has spent countless hours gathering and organizing information so that you don’t have to. We understand the value of your time, and as a result we have collected and condensed the information you need so that it is easy to find and read. Best of all, you can choose the medium that best suits your needs.

Get information when you want it at www.oda.org. Our website is always available and offers information on:

  • Handling patient records
  • Terminating a dentist/patient relationship
  • Working with dental insurers
  • Regulatory compliance checklists, rules and regulations
  • Tips on successfully managing a dental practice

If you are looking for answers to specific questions, the ODA staff is available by phone during regular business hours – free of charge. Staff members have more than 100 years of collective experience working with dental professionals like you. Professionally trained and courteous, they can answer questions on dental insurance, the law as it pertains to dental practice, regulatory compliance, accounting, media relations, marketing and other practice related issues.

Additionally, the ODA also publishes a monthly newsletter, ODA Today, and a twice-monthly e-Newsletter called NewsBytes. Both include the latest information from the field, keeping you up to date on the ever-evolving profession of dentistry.

Public Service

The ODA provides a range of public service and consumer-oriented programs that are geared to improving the oral health literacy of all Ohioans. The ODA is also Ohio's resource for oral health information to help consumers understand the importance of their oral health, and that having good oral health can contribute to their good overall health. ODA programs include:

  • Smiles for Seniors
The program is designed for health professionals, particularly those who work in-home or in a care or residential facility, to understand and help address the unique oral health issues facing older adults.
  • Give Kids a Smile! Day
This annual event provides free dental care to thousands of underprivileged Ohio kids. Participating dentists volunteer time and resources to screen and treat kids who otherwise would not have access to dental care.

  • Operation T.A.C.T.I.C.
Teens Against Chewing Tobacco in the Community is a program designed to educate the public on the dangers of smokeless tobacco. The program provides information and tips on how to avoid tobacco use and help individuals who are using tobacco to stop.
  • OPTIONS
Dental OPTIONS is a joint program of the ODA and the Ohio Dept. of Health, and helps link needy Ohioans with dental care throughout the state.
